About Pawpaw Prints Digital Downloads
Items displayed on this site, with the exception of prints, are produced by a Print on Demand (POD) provider at the closest site to where you live. However, with regard to prints, we have made the decision to only offer prints as digital downloads. In this regard the big advantage to you, a buyer of a digitally downloaded file, is that you have much more flexibility over the size/s that you can have the work that you purchase printed at. Instead of just buying one print from a commercial printer you have the the potential to print multiple prints, and in varying sizes.
The numbers displayed in the title of each piece displayed on this site, eg 30x60x300, indicate that the piece can be printed up to and including a size of 30 inches x 60 inches (76.2 x 152.4cm) and that the piece is saved at 300 dots per inch, the printing industry standard for the printing of quality prints.
The 30x60 numbering ratio indicates that the image has the potential to be printed in sizes of up to and including a horizontal length of 30 inches (76.2cm) and a vertical length of 60 inches (154.4cm), ie it is taller than it is wide. This is referred to as portrait (vertical) mode. If the numbering was 60x30 the image would have a horizontal length of 60 inches (154.2cm) and a vertical length of 30 inches (76.2cm), ie it would be wider than it is tall. This is referred to as landscape (horizontal) mode.
After downloading your purchase you can have it printed at the size indicated, in this example 30x60 inches, as well as in smaller sizes as long as the aspect ratio of the original is unaltered. In this example, 30x60, the aspect ration is 1:2 Therefore your 30x60 inch print can also be printed at, eg, 15x30 inches (38.1 x 76.2cm) or 3x6 inches (7.62 x 15.24cm) or 6x12 inches (15.24 x 30.48) or in any other size as long as the original aspect ratio of 1:2 is maintained.
Printing your image at sizes greater than that indicated, in this example 30x60 inches, is not advised because the resulting print quality may diminish. The 'rule of thumb' here being that you can always print smaller but not larger. This is why we only offer large image sizes.
